TICE
CSPS debut | Jackie Tice’s
recent CD, Second Skin, makes full use of her award-winning
performing and songwriting skills. Produced by 2005 Grammy Award-winner Bill
Miller, it includes Jamey Haddad (Paul Simon) on percussion and Pete
Cummings (Johnny Cash, Willy Nelson) on electric guitar. "Jackie is not in a
box," says Miller. "She writes songs with messages ... hers is a voice that
needs to be heard."
A Kerrville New Folk Award-winner, Jackie Tice
co-mingles her Native American and old European roots to create her own
lyrical and musical style, with subjects as diverse as the lives of
Magdalene women, Shakespearian love and the call of coyotes.
Her songs have been praised as "modern day classics ... capturing instances
of universal recognition and appeal." "I love your songs," Lucinda Williams
said to Jackie backstage at the Kerrville Festival.
Tice was raised in a Montgomery County,
Pennsylvania, steel mill town, growing up with six brothers and sisters and
acquiring enough songwriting fodder to last a lifetime. Today she has four
albums to her credit and a collection of rave reviews from major music media
in the US, Australia, Italy and Canada.
In 2002, Tice produced an acoustic collection
of songs inspired by her oil paintings, entitled In These Bones,
which, alongside the Doc Watson/David Holt collection, Legacy, was
recently nominated as Best Traditional Folk Album by the grassroots JPF
Music Awards. Tice's song “Domestic Delinquent,” was included in the 2002
Random House publication, “Life's a Stitch: The Best of Contemporary Women's
Humor,” an anthology of humorous short stories, poetry, songs and cartoons
alongside writing by Gloria Steinem, Erma Bombeck and others.
Her festival and club dates have included appearances with Christine Lavin,
Peter Yarrow, Paul Stookey, John Gorka, Garnet Rogers, Susan Werner and
others. Performing everywhere from Club Passim to the Bluebird Café, Jackie
Tice is increasingly recognized as an important voice among American
songwriters.
