TEITUR
with JESSIE BAYLIN and HELGI

Cedar Rapids debut | Teitur (tie'tor) is a singular name for a singular man. Hailing from the remote Faroe Islands, Teitur is an artist whose songs remind you what music can do for the soul.
Teitur first came to the attention of the world with the release of his 2003 debut album Poetry & Aeroplanes, which won him rave reviews, and soon saw him opening for Rufus Wainwright, Aimee Mann and John Mayer. (Mayer, who became a true fan, wrote in Esquire, Poetry and Aeroplanes may be one of the best albums to come along in the last five years. Music like this is jet fuel on the fire of a broken heart.”)
In 2006, in between his performances at the major European festivals, Teitur recorded his second album, Stay Under The Stars. It was released to great acclaim in Europe and the US, debuting in the top ten in Denmark, subsequently going gold there, and earning Teitur the award for Best Singer at the Danish Music Awards in March 2007.
In mid 2007, Teitur started to pull together the songs that would make up his third album, The Singer. Says the artist, "The songs were written over a time span of seven years. They are based on my experiences, like drinking beers on a musty hotel floor with the mysterious blues musician Chris Whitley, or on stories that I have come across in my lifetime ... "

In October 2007 Teitur traveled to Gotland, an island off the coast of Sweden, with sound engineer Jonas and arranger Trondur. They recorded the album on the 19th century estate of a Swedish princess, which in the summer functions as a hotel, but was, when the musicians arrived in the fall, beautiful, windswept and deserted. The tranquility was interrupted only by the various musicians and singers who came to play or sing on the album, who all stayed at the hotel.
"This album was made in tranquility and isolation," Teitur now says. "The result is a very natural, yet Nordic record, with similarities to a musical or a book of short stories." The Singer was released in Scandinavia this past February and went straight to #6 on the Danish charts. The following week it was #1 on itunes.
Guest artist | Based in Los Angeles, Jessie Baylin is a
truly gifted young artist whose sultry jazz-flavored vocals and contemporary lyrical edge make her sublimely unique and musically intoxicating.
Opening | Helgi Jonsson is a boundary-hopping trombonist, singer and composer from Iceland. He has worked with
such artists as Sigtryggur Baldursson of the Sugarcubes, songwriter Pétur Ben, Germany's Funkstörung, Amiina and Sigur Rós
