JASON LINDNER
Cedar Rapids debut | Pianist Jason Lindner has been a fixture in the New York jazz scene since the mid-90s, when the venerated Greenwich Village club, Smalls, became the home for a new generation of forward-thinking jazz musicians. Lindner's ensemble performances quickly became the focal point for critics writing about the club. He regularly drew sold-out crowds, even on Monday nights, something more established musicians could only accomplish on weekends. Record label representatives eagerly tried to capitalize on the buzz. Before long the band had released their Impulse Records debut, Jazz Underground Live At Smalls, followed by their first studio release, Premonition, on Chick Corea’s Stretch label.
Jason Lindner grew up in Brooklyn, started playing piano at age two, and was playing jazz proficiently by 15. He apprenticed with master bebopper Barry Harris and  mystic harmonic master Chris Anderson, and early in his career played with Junior Mance, Tardo Hammer, Harold Danko, Frank Hewitt and Jaki Bayard. More recently he has performed, recorded or toured with Claudia Acuña, Meshell Ndegeocello, Roy Haynes, Lauryn Hill, Baba Israel, Avishai Cohen, Pharaoh's Daughter and Forro in the Dark.
With his own band, now in their 12th year, he is preparing an exciting and much anticipated double CD recorded live at the Jazz Gallery.
