Canceled | The Fabulous Ginn Sisters
(that’s a hard G, like “gutsy”) have taken the legacy of great Americana
music and recast it with their own stories, sounds and instincts. In a world
of music split between rowdy bars and the gentle strains of fern bars and
songwriting contests, The Ginn Sisters can turn a biker bar into a listening
room.
“Tiffani — lead singer, guitarist and songwriter — has that same kind of
rich, twangy voice that has made Natalie Maines so popular,” wrote one
critic, “and when Brit (who plays flute) adds those harmonies, it sends
chills up and down the spine.”
Tiffani and Brit have been singing and playing music together for over
20 years. Born just 13 months apart into a musical family in Schulenburg,
Texas, they grew up with a solid foundation of great music. In 2003, they
brought their stunning harmonies to Austin where Tiffani’s songwriting and
Brit’s already potent flute playing have both blossomed.
Alt-country star Fred Eaglesmith was struck by the new band’s rough,
raw boned sound and invited them to record their new CD in his Port Dover,
Ontario, studio. The result is a smoky, drunken stumble through a
brokenheart junkyard. You Can’t Take a Bad Girl Home is set for
release in late winter. Having notched out a place for themselves with their
amazing singing, the new CD is a marked dodge toward rock and roll. The
songs are bleak yet poppy, the singing is subtle and nuanced, and the music
is a garagey mix of reverb and hum.
The Fabulous Ginn Sisters first made their mark on the Americana scene with
their 2006 release Blood Oranges, which received stellar reviews from
regional, national and international media. It reached #2 on the RootsMusic
Report, #3 on the FAR Chart and #24 on the Americana Chart and was the #1
independently released CD on the 2006 Americana Chart. ::: Due to a case
of appendicitis in their band, the Fabulous Ginn
Sisters will not be opening for Fred Eaglesmithas planned. Wed Mar 3 | 8
