CHRISTOPHER DENNY, BROOKE
WAGGONER
and JEREMY FISHER
Iowa debut |
Little Rock, Arkansas native
Christopher Denny is only 22, yet enjoying an enthusiastic and
growing reputation for his
"powerful, twangy, and robust vocals." With a style that's reminiscent of
'50s rockabilly, of Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, and Scotty Moore, the
multi-talented songwriter updates the tradition with natural skill and
unpredictable choices. Critic Lauren Wilcox
writes "Denny's music knows exactly what the trouble is, and the joy and the
heartbreak, too."
Iowa debut |
Nashville's Brooke
Waggoner emerged on the scene just last year, but between her stirring
live performances, and a stunning first EP, word is traveling quickly about
this distinctive young artist. Known for her intricate, innovative piano
playing, which has been called equal parts pop and symphonic pops, Waggoner
is winning acclaim as a lyricist, musician, performer, and arranger. From Rage,
to NPR, to Flagpole, critics are praising Waggoner and her lilting, delicate, indie pop.
Iowa debut |
He may be best known for
making that music video starring a cigarette, produced on a shoestring
budget and
attracting millions of views on You Tube. But Jeremy Fisher is first and
foremost a singer and songwriter, whose CD Goodbye Blue Monday has
been called "a
timeless burst of acoustic rock & roll, at once brainy and hook-filled,
playful and provocative." Raised in Vancouver, BC, Fisher once biked across the
entire continent, from Seattle to Halifax, to promote his first album. These
days his promotion is a little less extreme, his reputation a lot more solid. He was
just this month featured on World Café; was profiled in Paste magzine; and has been
nominated for two 2008 JUNO awards, including Best New Artist and Best Adult
Alternative Album. With one
foot in roots and the other in rock, and with incredible dedication, Jeremy
Fisher is an awesome new talent.
