GUY DAVIS
Postponed to a later date | He's a musician, composer, actor, director, and writer. But more than anything else, with his incredible voice and a great sense of humor, Guy Davis is a spell-binding bluesman.
In fact, like a cross between Robert Johnson, Zora Neale Hurston and Garrison Keillor, Guy Davis is a bluesman like no other — whip smart and deeply devoted to the tradition of acoustic blues, but never afraid to stretch the limits. His tough, timeless vocals blow through your brain like a Mississippi dust devil. When you add in his passionate harp and twangy National steel guitar, suddenly you've got Davis is cooking up a rich, boiling pot of blues and roots delights, a spiritual stew evoking an America they don’t teach you about in school.
The son of acclaimed actors and civil rights activists Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee, Guy brings a breadth of knowledge and depth of commitment to all he does. His recent CD, Skunkmello (Red House Records, 2006), received a rare
five-star review in Downbeat magazine considered the bible of the jazz world and was nominated for a Blues Award for Best Acoustic Blues Album.
"Davis reminds you that the blues started out as dance music," Charles Young has written in Playboy. "This is blues made for humming along, stomping your foot, feeling righteous in the face of oppression and expressing gratitude to your baby for greasing your skillet."
This concert has been postponed to a later date.
