BUCKWHEAT ZYDECO

Sold out | Their upcoming tour marks 30 years for Louisiana's barnstorming musical ambassadors. It's been an amazing three decades, during which Stanley Dural, Jr. — or Buckwheat, as he's better known — has remained at the forefront of his field.

He was
the first zydeco artist signed to a major record label, the first zydeco artist to perform on a national television show, the first zydeco artist to release a children's album, the first zydeco artist to launch his own record label, and the first zydeco artist to win an Emmy award. No other zydeco artist has come close to selling as many records or exposing the music to more people around the world.

The band's unsurpassed artistry, and tireless touring, have
taken the Bayou State native's rave-ups and soulful breakdowns to new heights worldwide. He and his band performed at both of President Clinton's inaugurals, and were featured at the Atlanta Summer Olympics.

Onstage and in the studio, he's collaborated with a who's who of musicians, including Ry Cooder on the classic Our New Orleans album, and memorable recent appearances with Lenny Kravitz, Wynton Marsallis, Elvis Costello, Dr. John and Allen Toussaint. Other famous collaborators over the past 30 years include Eric Clapton, Willie Nelson, Keith Richards, Dwight Yoakam, Gregg Allman, Robert Plant, Mavis Staples and David Hidalgo.

Last year's collaboration with indie rock stalwarts Yo La Tengo yielded two songs for Todd Haynes's Bob Dylan biopic, I'm Not There, with Buck showing off his amazing chops on the Hammond B3 organ, spinning the Leslie with his own soulful take on some of Al Kooper's most famous licks. This was just the latest in a long, historic run of Buckwheat Zydeco music in film and TV that started with the film that started it all for Zydeco music, The Big Easy, and has included music in dozens of feature films and TV shows over the years. Buck won an Emmy Award for his music for CBS's Pistol Pete: The Life and Times of Pete Maravich.

The band's
latest CD, Jackpot!, combines soulful original tunes, inspired playing and singing, and the trademark exuberance that's earned Buckwheat Zydeco fame as "the world's greatest party band." There's plenty of Buck's signature accordion, and for the first time ever he specifically features his soulful mastery of the horizontal keyboard on a three-song Hammond B3 "Encore: Featuring Organic Buckwheat."

Not surprisingly, Jackpot! runs the gamut of the Buckwheat Zydeco sound, and has earned rave reviews for its compelling mix of zydeco, blues, rock and soul, all played with the band's indelible finesse and passion.
