LOU BROWN
CSPS debut | Bournemouth,
England-based singer-songwriter Lou Brown is making an increasing impact
on the international acoustic scene. Her catalogue of original material is
extensive, from catchy melodies such as "Isn't She Amazing," "The Old Way"
and "What Are You Singing About?" to classically crafted ballads like
"These Arms" and "Morning Light." It isn't surprising that many of her
tracks have become standards around her hometown.
She first picked up a guitar at age nine, and has now been playing and
creating original material for over 20 years. It shows. Her use of
multiple capo placings (partial and regular) create unique altered tunings
that give her songs an original and quirky quality. Her instrumental
innovations, combined with her wonderfully husky yet clear vocal range,
make her music a force to be reckoned with.
In 2003 Brown walked away with the Southwest's Young Achiever of the Year
Award. She subsequently won an impressive £5000 grant from the Prince's
Trust, which she used to fund her first album. Through the Prince's
Trust's competitive Sound Live program, she was given the opportunity to
study vocal and instrumental skills from professional working musicians.
In addition to her extensive and hugely successful live performances, both
as a solo artist and with various bands, she has recently enjoyed regular
airplay on popular British radio.
Lou's new album, What Are You Singing About?, is a collection of
original music destined to please old fans, while winning over many new
ones.
