SARAH BORGES & THE BROKEN SINGLES
Cedar Rapids debut | Sarah Borges & The Broken Singles began with some friends getting together on Sunday afternoons in Boston, intending to drink some beer and play some cover songs. From the very beginning, their sound was a mix of country, rock, and '80s punk. Soon enough, Borges found herself at producer Paul Q. Kolderie's Camp Street studios, where the chemistry between the two was instant. Through their collaborative effort, two songs were recorded during that first session.
In 2005, both songs ended up on the final mix of Silver City, Sarah Borges' debut CD. That album
was quickly proclaimed an alt-country gem. Fans and critics alike loved its mix of big-city sheen with cry-in-your-beer songwriting. Soon, if you followed the charts, you were seeing the name Borges floating around the Americana Top 20.
Diamonds in the Dark, the latest from Borges and band
a dynamic, indelible and fiercely talented trio called The Broken Singles starts there and only gets better. Alternately sultry and swaggering, Borges brings together torch and twang, with a little Teenage Fanclub. Making their first CSPS appearance, Sarah Borges & The Broken Singles are likely to win over new fans. On thing's sure: they won't disappoint old ones.
