LUNAFEST
Short films by ... for ... about women
Only Iowa screening |
A touring festival now in its seventh year, Lunafest
has won a basketful of industry awards and audience accolades. The films selected for 2007-08 Lunafest extend this record of brilliance. From quirky animation to touching documentaries, the nine selected films are incredibly diverse in both style and subject matter, united by a common thread of exceptional storytelling by…for…about women.
Filled with reflection and whimsy, hope and humor, grace and perseverance, Lunafest films are renowned for uniquely celebrating the stories of women. Many of the films on the program first came to prominence through the naitonal and international festival circuits. Collectively, they work to captivate audiences, compel dialogue, and arm those who participate with the knowledge and the motivation to make a difference in their communities.
This year's films include:

My Other Mother, directed by Diana Keam (South Africa);
Make a Wish, directed by Cherien Dabis (New York);
Dona Ana Mrs. Ana, directed by Laura Acevedo And Carolina Escobar (Medellin, Columbia);
Happiness, directed by Sophie Barthes (France);
Family Reunion, directed by Isold Uggadottir (New York);
Daikon Ashi, directed by Ru Kuwahata (New York);
Breaking Boundaries: The Sondra Van Ert Story, directed by  Jennifer Grace (Montana);
The Guarantee, directed by Jesse Erica Epstein (New York);
Pockets,
directed by Sophie O'Hara (California).

Lunafest was established in 2000 by LUNA, the makers of the Whole Nutrition Bar for Women, to simultaneously promote women filmmakers, raise awareness for women’s issues, and support worthy women’s nonprofit organizations throughout the US. and Canada.
Lunafest is completely funded by LUNA, and organized and curated by a dedicated group of LUNA employees. One hundred percent of all proceeds are donated to charity, the majority going to the Breast Cancer Fund, and the remainder going back to local community organizations, like Legion Arts, that support women and their work.
Over the years, as Lunafest has grown from a single annual event to more than 100 festivals each season, LUNA’s commitment to this worthwhile program has grown as well. To date, Lunafest has raised over $250,000 for worthwhile organizations supporting women, while raising hope and awareness for the stories of women everywhere.
Clearly a case where you can do good, while having a very good time. Don't miss Lunafest!
