Jen Loeb was born and raised in Jesup, Iowa. She went to Wartburg College and graduated with a degree in biology. Jen started mountain climbing in 2010 and has since summited peaks all over the globe, including Everest on May 19, 2016. She’s the first woman from Iowa to accomplish this and she’s currently on track to become one of less than 25 women in the United States to complete the “7 Summits”. She’s been featured in the Cedar Rapids Gazette, The Des Moines Register, KWWL, KCRG and NPR.
There are many things that bring me joy in life, but the two that bring me the greatest amount of pleasure are climbing and volunteering. I started focusing on volunteer work in 2006 with a trip to Ghana. Over the years I’ve made it a point to volunteer locally, nationally and internationally. I’ve been involved in all different kinds of projects from building schools and houses to cleaning up rivers, removing invasive plants and collecting data on endangered species.
In 2010 I started mountain climbing. My ultimate goal is to climb the 7 Summits of which only one remains, Vinson, Antarctica.
My photography is an appreciation for the people and places of this world. Traveling has enriched my life through different cultures, languages, religions, food, politics, and ecosystems that I wouldn’t normally get to experience. I feel blessed and fortunate that I’ve been able to meet some amazing people and see some of nature’s greatest beauty. I always had a camera with me and I tried to capture some of these moments along the way.
