We’re happy to welcome back Halfloves, with their brand-new release, Dazer. The sophomore album was recorded in a barn in the middle of an Iowa cornfield, where the classic NY studio “Magic Shop” has found its new home. Now dubbed the “Magic Barn”, the studio features the same 70’s NEVE console, piano, etc. that Bowie, Bjork, Coldplay and countless others used to make some of the defining records of our time. Dazer features production from Brandon Darner (Imagine Dragons, The Envy Corps ), delivering a mix of songs, from upbeat and energetic to mid-tempo, dreamy cruisers. Hailed as “the best rock band in Iowa” by the Iowa Informer, Halfloves has been described by the Ames Tribune as “an excellent indie rock band capable of weaving tones together into a bright, rocking and melodic dose of pure pop.” In Little Village, Michael Roeder praised the band’s first album for its “focus on melancholy keyboards and bass guitar [that] gives the album a vibe that reminds me of the post-punk New Wave sound of bands like Talk Talk and Roxy Music.” Mixing pop sensibilities with heady textures and spaces, Halfloves creates an emotionally charged sound ― or, in Roeder’s words, “a ropeadope of pop hooks that keeps your head spinning.” Opening the show are singer-songwriter Frank Booth, whose first EP, released this spring, earned comparisons to Coldplay and Frank Turner, as well as popular Cedar Rapids trio Treesreach.
