Born in Quebec City, now based between Montreal and Mexico, Boogat is a young MC who’s managed to bridge Latin grooves with urban and electronic music, while telling everyday stories incorporating catchy hooks and goofy lyrics. He’s also a brilliant vocalist who constantly reinvents himself, evident in his prolific discography and unique artistic approach. It was his 2013 album El Dorado Sunset that first caught the attention of music lovers in Quebec. The album earned him two Félix Awards, for Best World Music Album and Best Producer. Meanwhile his explosive live shows, blending cumbia, reggaeton, salsa and hip-hop, were turning any space he entered into a party, both for fans of Latin music and for an increasingly larger audience. His forceful and witty rapping seamlessly blends with programmed and live instrumentation. Backed by a percussionist, a drummer and trombone player, Boogat skillfully creates a connection with the audience. His non-stop work in the worldbeat and tropical scenes has brought him global recognition, permitting him to develop an international career. In North America he has opened for the likes of Nortec Collective, Quantic, Gilles Peterson, and Chromeo. His latest album, Neo-Reconquista, was named World Music Album of the Year at the 2016 Juno Awards, Canada’s equivalent of the Grammies.
