Iowa City’s Winterland is known for channeling the music of the Grateful Dead with uncanny authenticity, a sublime fidelity to the Dead’s musicianship, and a re-creation of that group’s legendary relationship with its audience.
In this exclusive performance, Winterland will play the Grateful Dead’s 1981 album Reckoning in its entirety, as well as other songs from the concerts the album was compiled from. Released by Arista Records in April 1981, Reckoning was drawn from the all-acoustic sets the band presented the previous September and October at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco and Radio City Music Hall in New York. Making their CSPS Hall debut, Winterland’s concert will include intimate acoustic versions of songs ranging from “Dire Wolf” and “China Doll” to “On the Road Again” and “Ripple.”
Winterland is made up of eight area musicians, all active in the Midwest’s vibrant music scene, who’ve come together to enjoy, explore and emulate the music of The Dead. Their collective background ranges across nearly every musical genre, from jazz, funk and country, to blues, bluegrass and rock’n’roll. All these influences meld together beautifully as Winterland delivers what can only be described as Grateful Dead music.
