Based in Los Angeles, Jonah Smith is a critically acclaimed singer-songwriter who draws from the deep well of American blues, and from its many offshoots, including soul, country, and folk.
Raised in Syracuse, he took up music while attending college in Vermont. Following stints in Boston and Brooklyn, Smith came to national attention when he and his band auditioned for the NBC show, America's Got Talent, and went on to reach the semi-finals, at which point judge Howard Stern declared “You’re the real deal. You can play, you can sing – you’re terrific.” Smith has since shared the stage with the likes of Martin Sexton, Los Lobos and Little Feat, even while releasing ten albums on Relix Records and other labels. He’s been called “a songwriter with the voice of a soul singer,” producing “easygoing, soulful music that calls to mind J.J. Cale, early Van Morrison and Ben Harper” (Wall St. Journal). The New Yorker says “At its best, Jonah Smith’s amalgam of American Roots and soul evokes The Band,” while the New York Times has declared “Mr. Smith’s folk songs are equally well suited to downtown lounges and rural front porches.”
