Originally from New Jersey, John Gorka got his start at a small neighborhood coffeehouse in eastern Pennsylvania. He has since gone on to world renown as a singer and songwriter. Gorka’s rich, multi-faceted songs, full of depth, beauty and emotion, have been a hit with critics and audiences across the country, as well as in Italy, Belgium, Ireland, Holland and Germany. Billboardpraises his “modern folk with a touch of soul,” while the Associated Presshas declared his “wry, slice-of-life observations reminiscent of Lyle Lovett and John Prine.” After 14 critically acclaimed albums, countless national and international tours, and work with the likes of Nanci Griffith, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Ani DiFranco, Gorka recently released and toured Red Horse, a collaboration with label-mates Lucy Kaplansky andEliza Gilkyson. His most recent album, True in Time, was recorded old school, with the musicians all playing together in one place, creating the kind of lively and immediate listening experience adored by longtime fans. When not on the road, Gorka lives in Minnesota with his wife and children. And still, he continues to attract accolades. Says the New York Times, “Listening to John Gorka sing, one can get goosebumps all over. There are many reasons — the fresh lyrics, the stunning, emotional baritone voice, his twisted humor — but why focus on just one and limit the experience?”
