Legion Arts and the Russian Guitar Festival team up for an evening of musical
wizardry and theatrical humor featuring Martin Bagge, one of Sweden's leading
singer-songwriters. Winner of the Swedish Visa Prize and former president of the
Swedish Song Academy, Bagge is known for his performances inspired by historical
figures like Wivallius and Lucidor, and especially by beloved Swedish poet C.M.
Bellman, whose 18th-century psalms and songs he has reconstructed. He has
collaborated with some of the country's foremost jazz and folk musicians, and has
recorded three critically acclaimed CDs inspired by the lyrics of Harry Martinson. As a
composer of choral works, he has adapted texts by Federico Garcia Lorca and other
writers. Bagge’s live performances, spiced with burlesque comic touches, have toured
in Scandinavia, Great Britain, Germany, the Netherlands, China and the US, and
he’s released more than 20 albums under his own name. In this spectacular festival
event, Bagge will be joined on stage by a roster of guitarists and musicians hailing from
Sweden, Norway, Serbia, Russia and Iowa, including Ute Goedeke, Vadim Kolpakov,
Per Mattson, Marko Erdevicki, Mårten Falk, Stefan Wester and Oleg Timofeyev.
