Nominated for a 2018 Grammy Award, and subsequently named America’s Hottest Accordion, Dwayne Dopsie plays a high-energy zydeco that keeps the crowd wanting more. Hailing from one of the most influential musical families in Southwest Louisiana, he’s both inspired by tradition, and intent on transcending it to develop a unique style of 21st-century zydeco. Son of the legendary Rockin' Dopsie, Sr., Dwayne started out on the washboard, then took up the accordion at age seven. Since forming his first band, at age 19, he’s performed in 40 countries, including hundreds of cities across the United States. Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers have been featured in Rolling Stone, Big City Blues, Good Morning America, CBS This Morning, and the Jamie Kennedy Experiment. A perennial finisher in the annual Offbeat Awards, over the past six years he’s been named Best Accordionist, Best Zydeco Artist, Best Zydeco Band and Best Zydeco Album. It’s all fitting for the man who declares, “Zydeco music is in my blood and in my heart and soul.” Raves Toledo City Paper, "Dwayne takes the instruments and traditions of zydeco to new levels, infusing blues, soul and funk with a driving rub-board rhythm. The Zydeco Hellraisers’ sound is relentless, pulsating and funky, easily appealing to fans of all genres.” Rolling Stone simply proclaims, “He has no competition … he's the Jimmy Hendrix of the accordion.”
