With her emotive, folk-rock-country style, Crystal Bowersox was catapulted from the cramped coffeehouses of Toledo, and the subway tunnels of Chicago, to millions of homes across America, when she placed second in Season 9 of American Idol. Making a splash with her dreadlocks, and earning raves from the judges, it was her old soul of a voice, her carefree style, and don't-mess-with-me attitude that set her apart from the other contestants. Those qualities eventually landed the self-taught songstress performances with the likes of Joe Cocker, Harry Connick, Jr., and Alanis Morissette. Two subsequent acclaimed albums, and a pair of EPs, have confirmed her wide-ranging talents as a musician, bandleader, and songwriter, even as she’s gone on to perform alongside Jakob Dylan, Blues Traveler and Melissa Etheridge. She’s been described as possessing a voice "incapable of artifice" by the Washington Post, and as "having a keen, finely honed pop instinct all her own" by the New York Times. Now Crystal returns to CSPS Hall with a new Americana album, Alive. Seattle PI calls the release “a happy listen that comes from the heart … her gutsy, velvety vocals and smooth melodicism tying it all together.” Country Exclusive says it demonstrates “the power and emotional expression of Crystal’s voice, as well as her uncanny ability to draw you in while singing the hell out of a song.”
