OUT OF BOUNDS
Interested in getting up on the grand old stage of CSPS? Or just attending and having the time of your life? Then you should get involved in Out of Bounds, a popular open-stage event that Legion Arts pioneered at CSPS in the 1990s and resurrected last season. Here's the formula:

Who's eligible?
Eligible works include music, theatre, dance, performance art, spoken word, film, video, and related art forms. Out of Bounds is primarily intended for Eastern Iowa artists, aged 17 and over, who have at least some experience presenting their work outside a family room or classroom. But on this, we're flexible.

How can I get on stage?
Artists interested in performing must sign up in advance. To sign up, send an email to mel@legionarts.org or phone Mel Andringa at CSPS, 319-364-1580. Signing up well in advance enables us (and you) to promote the event more effectively..
In addition, at least one person from your act must be physically present at CSPS between 5 and 6 pm the night of the show to confirm your participation. That night's program will pretty much consist of the first acts that show up during that hour, although we sometimes adjust that rule. Be prepared to describe your act, tell us what you'll need to do it, and estimate how much time it will take.

The set-up
We can provide a platform stage; basic theatre lighting; three vocal mikes; three DIs; drum kit and piano; house amps and speakers; video projector and screen; and technicians to run it all. Bands are advised to plan an acoustic performance that's suited to the size and dynamics of CSPS. Other technical needs can be negotiated. The main event
Artists, you need to be on time. The show starts at 8. If you're not at CSPS by 7:50 you'll be removed from the program. Check in at the box office, where you'll also be able to see where you fall in the sequence. We'll arrange the acts in an order that makes sense technically. Once we start, an MC will introduce you. Get to the stage and begin your act promptly.

Show me the money
Admission to Out of Bounds is $5, period. Performers get in free. At the end of the night the box office is split between the artists performing that night. Artists, take note: it’s very much to your advantage to get your family, friends and fans to attend. Also note: if you leave before the end of the program you forfeit your share of the box office.

Merchandise policy
We can sell your CDs, books and t-shirts, within reason. We will provide volunteers to do this, will accept cash or checks, and can also process charges to Visa, MasterCard and American Express. To cover our costs we retain 15 percent.

Freedom of expression
Performing artists are prohibited from anything that might physically endanger the audience or the space. Otherwise the work presented at Out of Bounds is not screened or censored. Some audience members may find some of the work offensive.
