REBUILDING YOUR CULTURAL ECONOMY
canceled | In
response to
last summer's flood, Legion Arts, Access Iowa, and
the Iowa Cultural Corridor
Alliance have teamed up to sponsor a series of free public forums
addressing
how artists and communities can support each other during the
rebuilding process that follows a disaster.
The series aims to put Eastern Iowa artists and
organizations in touch with regional and national resources, bring the
cultural community together, and explore opportunities for working together
during this difficult time.
This program, the third in the series, will focus on the role that arts and
culture have played in the post-Katrina rebuilding of New Orleans and
Louisiana.The program will feature a
presentation by Scott Hutcheson, Assistant
Secretary for Cultural Development for the state of Louisiana. His
presentation will be followed by reactions from local cultural leaders, a
question and answer period, and an informal reception.
The program is free and open to the public.
Those planning to attend
are invited to reserve a place with Joe Jennison of the Iowa Cultural
Corridor Alliance, at
joe@culturalcorridor.org.
Scott Hutcheson is Assistant Secretary for
Cultural Development at the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and
Tourism. In that capacity he oversees a variety of
programs, including historic preservation, arts development, archaeology,
and cultural economic development.
Hutcheson came to
his current position after serving as executive director of the Louisiana
Cultural Economy Foundation, originally launched as part of the Lt.
Governor's Cultural Economy Initiative, and designed to serve as a catalyst
for growth within the state's burgeoning cultural economy. Following
Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Hutcheson was in charge of a $2 million fund
for the relief and recovery efforts of affected cultural organizations,
artists, and cultural businesses affected.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Hutcheson served as the
chief operating officer of the Arts Council of New Orleans, where he worked
for 10 years overseeing the operations of an award-winning arts business
incubator and a four-parish grant program.
Hutcheson has also served as executive director of the North Central
Louisiana Arts Council in Ruston, and of the Calcasieu Arts and Humanities
Council in Lake Charles. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Politics at
Loyola University and serves on the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission.
He is the immediate past chairman of the Louisiana Partnership for the Arts
and the Louisiana Partnership for Arts Advocacy. He holds a BA in
