T&A: The Art of Truth and Activism
Iowa premiere | All over the world, young women artists are employing the tools, language and motifs of hip-hop as a means of expression and connection, of education, and of social and political activism. T&A: The Art of Truth and Activism, a stunning and revelatory new exhibit, incorporates the work of 30 of these young artists, hailing from across the USA, as well as from Canada, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, France and South Africa. The bold, vibrant and eye-popping show includes works in a variety of media: from video and photography, to painting, sculpture and textiles.

T&A: The Art of Truth and Activism was curated by DeAnna Cummings, assisted by Michele Spaise, in conjunction with B-Girl Be: A Celebration of Women in Hip-Hop, a multi-disciplinary event produced by Intermedia Arts, Minneapolis, in June and July 2007.

The exhibit comprises works by Layluh Amatullah Barrayn (Brooklyn), Aktuit (Minneapolis), B Fresh (Minneapolis), Martha Cooper (New York), Keina B. Davis (San Francisco), Erotica 67 (New York), Faith 47 (Capetown, South Africa), Krista Franklin (Chicago), Gitana (Puerto Rico), Julie Graves (Minneapolis), Indie 184 (New York), Indigo (Minneapolis), Monica R.
