new ground, tells unique stories and brings people together.
Over the past ten years, Legion Arts
has presented an eclectic array of contemporary visual art at CSPS, a
renovated Czechoslovakian social hall on the National Register of Historic Places, as well
as other locations.
Since 1991 the company has organized or sponsored more than
100 exhibitions, including such groundbreaking thematic shows as Art Over AIDS, The
Farm Show, In the Spirit: Contemporary Art and Religious Tradition, Face to Face: Self-Portraits of Linn County and Interlocking
Pieces, an exhibit of art inspired by jigsaw puzzles. Well-known visual
artists whose work has been seen at CSPS include Robert Wilson, Yoko Ono,
Andres Serrano, Laurie Anderson and Corita Kent.
The company's innovative programming and emphasis on
community development have attracted national attention, as well as artists from across
the country and audiences from throughout Iowa and surrounding states.
